About Me
Wife, mom, and semi-empty nester writing about adult friendship, reinvention, and what it means to navigate this stage of life with clarity.
Hey there, I’m Amy
As I approached the empty nest phase, something unexpected caught my attention.
My friendships were in a genuinely good place. After a lifetime of feeling like the odd one out, I’d finally found people who truly see me. Even as an introvert, I was starting to enjoy certain group situations in a way I never had before.
But around me, I kept seeing something very different.
Women my age were watching friendships quietly fade—after kids left home, after long-standing routines changed, after life simply shifted. I saw it in Facebook groups for empty nesters. I saw it in the way younger adults were already struggling with connection in their own lives.
That contrast stuck with me.
It made me curious about what was actually happening beneath the surface of adult friendship—why it can feel so hard, even when nothing obvious is wrong.
That curiosity led me here.
I started writing about adult friendship, and it pulled me back to take a closer look at my own friendship story—starting in my early 20s. What I found surprised me. Adult friendship often feels different than we expect, and connection can be harder to find even when we’re surrounded by people. There are real reasons for that, and they’re worth understanding.
Through my writing, I explore what’s actually going on beneath that experience—and how to make sense of it.
Along the way, I also share what I’m learning about life after 50 more broadly: reinvention, everyday technology, books, and the small things that make this stage a little easier to move through.
If you’ve ever felt like your friendships should feel more connected than they do—you’re not imagining it. And you’re not alone.
This is where we start making sense of that.
